WHAT IS Canta y Baila Conmigo®?

CyBC is a music and movement class in Spanish for children 0-5 and their adult caregivers. It is designed to be accessible to all families, regardless of native language, musical background, ethnicity, age or ability level. Children and adults learn language naturally and organically through the music activities, song lyrics, and the interactions in class.

Our beautiful Family Songbook with accompanying music CD, and digital download and streaming option is a key component of our curriculum. Each family receives a set of these materials every semester, so that the learning and grooving can continue at home. In addition, registered families have access to the Family Portal, which offers additional family support materials as well as fun “extras” for kids.

Many programs teach vocabulary using songs.  We pride ourselves in teaching language through music. We take music education seriously, and we present it in the context of language immersion. Children and adults learn language naturally and organically through the music activities, song lyrics, and the interactions in class.

Language learning through immersion is natural and ongoing, so our collections are not sequential. Basic key vocabulary is used and repeated every semester. Each collection also adds themes and special concepts that enrich language learning no matter which semester you join the class.  This class is for children ages birth to five years.

MIXED AGE/FAMILY CLASS (Birth to 5 years) – the essential Music Together® class

This class is for children birth to 5 years. A child can attend our Mixed Age classes through all nine song collections. This class follows the recommendations of child development researchers – grouping together children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style, community learning. Younger children can enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children, not quite ready for formal instruction, but old enough to participate in class completely independently, can build confidence and learn by leading the younger ones. Adults are happy because several children in a family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching or exploring musical instruments. Any caregivers – parents, grandparents, nanny – can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this community friendly, family music experience. Materials include a professionally recorded CD, and a beautifully illustrated songbook. New families also receive a Parent Guide.

Our Generations class format is like that of Mixed Age/Family.  The difference is that the Generations class is shared with senior residents living in the facility where class is held.  The residents join the teacher and families each week for class, making our essential class even more of a community experience. The residents love being with the families and seeing the children and the families offer their children a true intergenerational and musical exchange. Materials include 2 professionally recorded CD's, and a beautifully illustrated songbook. New families also receive a DVD and parent guide.  (Please also refer to the Mixed Age/Family class description.)  Please watch the video here:

BABIES ONLY (Birth through 8 months)

Every child's development benefits from early exposure to music and movement. Because the early months are so important, Music Together® offers two options for babies. Babies 8 months and younger at the time of registration may attend a Mixed Age Class, whether registered independently or attending free with an older brother or sister. Families with infants are also invited to take our Babies Only class, offered as a one-semester introduction to Music Together. (The Babies Only class is intended for infants who are not yet moving around and therefore, cannot be repeated). The music activities and materials are specially designed for parents and caregivers who want to learn as much as possible about music development in babies. In class you will meet other parents of infants and learn some fascinating music activities you can repeat at home with your baby. Materials include 2 professionally recorded CD's, a songbook and parent education materials. The fee for the class is $145.00. There is a one-time non-refundable fee of $15.00 for new families.

The term is 8 weeks and meets for 45 minutes. Reservations are required. If you have questions about the Babies class not answered here, please contact Miranda at

Testimonial: BABIES CLASS

My son and I started taking the babies' class with Miranda Haydn when he was 10 weeks old. At the beginning, I felt like the class was mostly for me: it gave me the chance to take my son out of the house, to meet other parents with young children, and to learn about what I could do to help stimulate my child's musical development. Soon, however, it became as appealing to him as to me, and he started to respond to the music and to the stimulation of being surrounded by other children near his developmental level. He began kicking his legs in excitement, watching the older babies play instruments, and smiling in response to dancing parents. By the last session, he was even able to vocalize his interest in what was going on around him: he called out a response in the key of the song! Another sign that my son was learning throughout the course was that he would stay awake--wide-eyed and observant--for each class and then nap deeply afterward. It was clear that the exercises were well designed for his age, that they stimulated him a lot, and that he was comfortable in the climate that Miranda created. I would heartily recommend this course for anyone with a baby, but especially to those who have just had their first child and are looking for an educational experience to share with them.
